How do you grow carrots?

Growing carrots successfully requires a combination of good soil preparation, proper planting techniques, and consistent care. Carrots thrive in loose, well-draining soil that is free of rocks and debris. Compacted soil can cause the carrot roots to become misshapen or stunted, so it's important to prepare your garden bed, container, or raised bed carefully before planting.

To start, apply BigAss Carrots Fertilizer to the soil before sowing your carrot seeds. For garden beds or containers, use 1-2 scoops of fertilizer per square foot. You can either mix the fertilizer lightly into the soil or simply top-dress by sprinkling it over the surface. Plant your carrot seeds about ¼ inch deep, spacing them 2-4 inches apart. After planting, keep the soil consistently moist until the seeds germinate, which typically takes 2-3 weeks.

Once your seedlings have emerged, thin them out to prevent overcrowding, allowing each carrot enough space to grow. Maintain consistent moisture and apply mulch around the base of the plants to help retain water and keep the soil cool.

If needed, you can apply BigAss Carrots Fertilizer a second time, about 3-4 weeks after planting, to support continued growth. However, in most cases, one application before planting is sufficient for the entire growing season. By following these steps and providing proper care, you'll be rewarded with a bountiful harvest of healthy, flavorful carrots.
