How to fertilize tomatoes?

Fertilizing tomato plants is crucial to ensure healthy growth, abundant fruit production, and resistance to common plant diseases. The process itself is fairly straightforward, but it's important to follow a consistent approach and use the right fertilizer to see optimal results. With BigAss Tomatoes Fertilizer, we recommend starting the fertilization process at the first sign of active growth, whether you’re planting transplants, seedlings, or perennials.

Begin by applying the fertilizer around the base of the plant, taking care not to let it come into direct contact with the stems or leaves, which could cause nutrient burn. Once the fertilizer is applied, gently work it into the top 5-10 cm (2-4 inches) of soil to ensure it is absorbed into the root zone, where the plant can effectively take up the nutrients. Afterward, water the area thoroughly to help carry the nutrients into the soil and reach the roots.

It’s also essential to follow the feeding schedule. With BigAss Tomatoes Fertilizer, the best practice is to fertilize every second watering, but no more than once per week. This schedule ensures that your tomato plants get a consistent, slow release of nutrients throughout the growing season, supporting healthy growth, flowering, and fruit production. In particularly hot or dry weather, it’s important to moisten the soil before fertilizing to reduce stress on the plant and aid nutrient absorption. For container-grown plants, refer to the more specific instructions provided on the packaging of BigAss Tomatoes Fertilizer to ensure you’re tailoring the feeding process to their unique needs.
